When did you know you wanted to become a writer?
In preschool, I won the Best Storyteller award and I’ve been telling stories ever since.
What made you decide to write in the fantasy space? Who or what are your influences?
I’ve always read widely across genres, but my favorite books growing up were by Lois Duncan. They tended to feature female protagonists in a contemporary setting with hints of magic. I still have the old paperbacks from my childhood shelf. Later I discovered Games of Thrones (before the TV show!) by George RR Martin, Ilona Andrews, especially their Kate Daniels series, and the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. They each excel in their respective genres for a reason! In terms of movies, we rewatch Lord of the Rings every year or so, usually around the winter holidays. Marvel, especially Guardians of the Galaxy. Buffy. Basically if it has found family and snappy dialogue, I’m there.
When did you become a full-time author?
I published my first book in 2011 thanks to Amazon’s new (at the time) KDP platform. I owe much of my success to the creation of Kindle books. The vast majority of my books are available in the Kindle Unlimited program, as well as on Audible. I’m also in the process of offering them to libraries now that Amazon is allowing that option for exclusive titles.
